Aeromexico was the first domestic airline to deliver to the Mexican Civil Aviation Agency, the emissions report corresponding to its 2019 operations. Thus
complying with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), of which Mexico is a voluntary member.
The report contains data on the fuel consumption and emissions of international flights that the company operated in 2019. The work was reviewed by Ruby Canyon, a renowned company whose services include the verification of Greenhouse Gas inventories and validating mitigation projects. On its
conclusions it did not determine findings or observations, and highlighted that Grupo Aeromexico’s Operational Information Management System is robust and reliable.
CORSIA is an offsetting plan adopted by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which aims to reduce carbon emissions from the international aeronautical industry.
On the other hand, the initiatives of the Fuel Efficiency Program that Aeromexico has, helped it to lead the position 17 in the World Ranking of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) related to this topic, out of a list of 100 airlines that produce lower amounts of carbon dioxide. Since 2013, the year on which the company started participating, it has climbed 69 positions.
Aeromexico has one of the most modern, efficient, and least polluting fleets in the world. Its main hangar at Mexico City International Airport has an environmental management system certified by ISO 14001.
As part of the commitment to the UN AGENDA 2030 for Sustainable Development, specifically Goal 13 Climate Action, Aeromexico keeps dedicated to the environment, highlighting its efforts to reduce the use of single-use plastics, eliminating of Styrofoam cups, replacement of plastic stirrers with wood and reducing the use of more than 1 million plastic bags, operational efficiency and emission compensation.
The company will continue its strategies for environmental protection, regulatory compliance and coordination with the Mexican Civil Aviation Agency, and international aviation organisms.
